Bartles/Whiteleggs Funfairs Limited.

Bartle's Amusements Ltd was registered as a Limited Company in April 1964 by Vivien Bartle. The business grew from the Roller Skating rink and arcade in Camborne although I am not sure if they started travelling amusements before or after the Skating Rink. However, as the company grew it took on a yard (rented from the Gas company) at the bottom of Tuckingmill that used to be used by T.Whitelegg & Sons for a presentation in May.

I have a series of photos (link below) that were probably taken in the early 1980's or late 1970's and by this time Vivyan Bartle had purchased the Regal cinema at Redruth - the first film he showed was ET in Nov 1982. At about this time this original set of equipment was sold to Ireland with the Hoop-las and other side shows and the transport went with it. I am sure that there are lots of stories about the Skating rink, the Regal and other ventures including subsuming the Whitelegg's Funfairs name when in 2001 Bartle's Amusements changed it's name to Whiteleggs Funfairs Limited.

In 2004, the firm purchased Mark Williams Supercar Dodgem track and used it down at Marazion for a few years on the same spot that they operated on for many years,  This was put in store when Vyvyan's son Mike Bartle went to Australia and was scrapped in the late twenty-teens.

The company worked throughout the early 2000's often touring with Phil and Anne Raymond and had purchased Joey Stokes Dodgems. The Trabant was sold on to a couple of Showmen spending longest with Cornwall Funfairs, before reappearing in 2007 with the firm. At the end of 2007 a grasscutter Twist was purchased although it never opened with the firm. Bartle's also had a  Fun house, Kids paratrooper and Octopus.

Having built the firm up over several years the operation ceased in 2008 when Mike Bartle and family members emigrated to Australia. The rides were put in store and disposed of in the early 2020's
